About This Place

Nestled along the picturesque shores of West Bay in Traverse City, Harrington's By The Bay is a family-friendly restaurant, bar, and grill that flawlessly marries inviting ambiance with a tantalizing menu inspired by fresh, local flavors. This beloved dining destination has rightfully earned its reputation for delivering exceptional dishes that satisfy both classic tastes and adventurous palates alike.

Whether you're seating yourself indoors with views of the shimmering bay or soaking in the tranquil atmosphere from the spacious patio, Harrington's offers a warm, welcoming setting perfect for family dinners, casual meals with friends, or special celebrations. The service consistently receives high marks for attentiveness and genuine hospitality, adding a comforting personal touch to every visit.

The cuisine leans heavily on fresh seafood and hearty American favorites, delightfully prepared with a hint of coastal flair. Standout dishes like the Whitefish Sandwich, lightly battered and paired with house-made tartar sauce alongside a side of golden truffle fries, create a perfect balance of crispy texture and rich flavor that lingers on the palate. For those seeking bold appetizers, the Bacon Wrapped Shrimp and the Bang Bang Shrimp offer a mouthwatering mix of spice and smokiness, perfectly complemented by smooth Gorgonzola chive vinaigrette or sweet chili aioli.

Soups and salads provide lighter yet deeply satisfying options, with the Butternut Squash Bisque earning praise for its velvety texture and the subtle crunch of candied pecans, while the Baby Romaine Wedge salad bursts with vibrant, fresh ingredients like house bacon and crumbled bleu cheese. Heartier mains like the Parmesan Crusted Whitefish and the succulent Ribeye Steak create memorable dining moments, expertly cooked and richly seasoned to please even the most discerning guests.

For those with a sweet tooth, desserts such as the Flourless Chocolate Cake Slice and the indulgent Peanut Butter Chocolate Pie are the perfect final flourish, embodying decadent, richly layered flavors with every bite. The beverage menu complements the culinary offerings beautifully, with signature cocktails like the Power Island Martini and a robust House Bloody Mary rounding out the experience.

What truly sets Harrington's By The Bay apart is its ability to craft a comprehensive menu where every item—from the crispy Beer Battered Lake Perch to the comforting French Onion Soup—feels thoughtfully prepared and brimming with flavor. Customers consistently highlight the genuine quality and attention to detail; many share fond memories of anniversary dinners, lively family evenings, or simply unwinding with friends while savoring fresh, expertly made dishes.

In the words of delighted patrons: the food is “absolutely fabulous… cooked to perfection,” and the atmosphere provides “beautiful views from the patio” with staff who are “awesome” and “super attentive.” It’s this harmony of scenic beauty, carefully crafted cuisine, and standout service that makes Harrington’s By The Bay a must-visit dining hotspot in Traverse City.

We really enjoyed everything this visit, our server was very polite and attentive, the food was good. I had a burger this time it was cooked just the way I ordered it and I enjoyed the add on of truffle fries! The main dining room wasn't very busy, but locals night had the bar packed! We like to bring our family here because they have a lot of food options and everything is usually pretty well prepared. I do wish they had more kid options that were healthy.

We had whitefish and walleye ..absolutely fabulous...cooked to perfection. Waitress was Renee and was terrific. The atmosphere was great but our table was very sticky and needed to be DEEP CLEANED. Price was very fairly rated.

My husband and I celebrated our 1 year wedding anniversary here and it did not disappoint! Our server was fantastic and super attentive. We sat at a booth with views of the lake, it was perfect. We ordered calamari for the appetizer and for entrees we ordered the parmesan crusted whitefish (subbed out the mash for parmesan risotto) and the beer battered cod with truffle fries. The food was delicious! We can’t wait to come back in the future.

Kind of pricey with smaller portions but food is delicious and drinks (mojito and gin&tonic) are tasty. We each had different fish - whitefish, walleye, cod and everything was delicious. Food was served quickly and service was very friendly.

**2025, came and got braised short rib...YOU MUST GET. Crab cakes excellent, excellent food. Hands down. Excellent spot. Everything we had was enjoyed by all. On the higher side of prices, I'd say it was well worth it. Portions were just right. You won't leave hungry but you won't leave feeling like you need to skip the next meal. Burger was asked for mid rare and was spot on. I think it was firecracker shrimp was excellent. If you plan to visit keep your eyes peeled you can easily pass it. We sat by the windows for the view of the lake. There is a bar, outside seating etc. App, 3 entrees, drinks and tip was about $144. We'll worth a visit.

Traffic is bad due to construction. We had the parmesean crusted whitefish with mashed potatoes and greenbeans. The fish crust tasted slightly burnt. Also had walleye with risito and green beens. We shared a Caesar salad that was average. We also had an order of bread. Overall the food was not up to the quality we have had in other Michigan restaurants at this price level.
